Sometimes the result of coloring does not meet our expectations at all. If the shade was chosen incorrectly or the paint behaved unpredictably, hair decapitation will save the situation

What is hair pickling?

Hair decapitation is the process of removing pigment resulting from dyeing. In other words, it's a hair wash. As a result, the hair returns to its natural color.

Let's note right away that decapitation is a procedure of chemical action on the hair. The special composition lifts the scales of the hair cuticle and penetrates deep to start a chemical reaction, as a result of which the pigment is destroyed and washed out.

Evgeniy Sedoy Color expert, GarnierDecapitation is the removal of pigments previously introduced through various dyes. Decapitation is also used if you want to lighten dyed hair.

When is decapitation necessary?

Before decapaging, evaluate the risk-benefit ratio of this procedure. In some cases, you can simply correct the shades through toning and wait for the hair to grow back.

Let's list the situations when color cleaning is really necessary:
  • the result of coloring did not suit you - it turned out to be the wrong shade or it turned out that the result does not suit you;

  • desire to return to your natural color;

  • the desire to even out the color after repeated dyeing, when the paint falls on the hair in spots;

  • hair cleaning is indicated before dyeing if the curls were previously dyed dark colors.

Types of decapitation

Decapitation can be superficial or deep. They differ in the strength of the effect on the pigment. Each specific case requires an individual approach, taking into account the condition of the hair and the final goal. Let's talk more about the types of decapitation.

Surface pickling

Such a gentle wash is done with a special bleaching powder. Decapitation with powder in combination with shampoo is great for making the color uniform or correcting the shade.

Deep decapitation

To bring out, for example, a rich black color, a more aggressive effect on the pigment is required. A 3% or 6% oxidizing agent is added to the bleaching powder. This hair wash formula works effectively and quickly enough - the composition is kept on the strands for no longer than 50 minutes. It is important to understand that after deep decapitation, it is imperative to restore curls: they will need deep hydration and intensive nutrition.

How to make hair decapitation at home?

At home, decapitation with powders and oxidizers is not worth doing. Only a master who has the appropriate experience and is familiar with the basics of chemical processes is able to observe all proportions and choose the subsequent care.

Special paints have been developed for self-picking, for example E0 "Decolorant" from Garnier.

Here are some tips from our expert Evgeniy Sedoy on how to do the wash yourself.

  1. In order not to get the effect of burning roots, you need to decapitate without postponing this procedure for a long time after the last dyeing: this way you will increase the chances of getting a more even color. No need to wait a whole month to decapitate.

  2. Before decapitation, you can color in your usual shade and the next day or two days later, perform decapitation.

  3. In no case should a decapitating agent be saved - otherwise there is a high risk of getting stains as a result of ridding the hair of the pigment. Follow the golden rule of dye-drenched hair. It is really important to apply the composition generously so that all the pigments previously delivered to the hair are destroyed and removed using E0, for example.

Some girls prefer to use folk remedies. With their help, you can really lighten your hair, though only one, at best two tones. Let's take a closer look at each of them.

Natural honey has brightening properties. It contains enzymes that are involved in oxidative reactions.The content of these substances is very small, so honey is practically harmless to hair.Melted honey in a water bath is applied to clean, damp hair and left for several hours or even overnight. For a noticeable effect, such decapitation at home will have to be repeated several times with an interval of a couple of days.

Lemon juice

The large amount of ascorbic acid in lemon gives it brightening properties. You can use fruit juice or grind it and apply it on your hair as a mask for 30-40 minutes. Caution: after such an acid wash, you need to intensively moisturize your hair.

This fermented milk product is often used as a mask to strengthen hair, forgetting that it can also partially wash off the paint from curls. True, in order for it to act on the paint, it must be kept on the hair for about 2 hours, wrapping your head in a towel.

Baking soda

With the help of soda, you can also reduce the intensity of the shade and even lighten the strands. This method is suitable for girls whose hair is prone to oily, as baking soda can dry out hair a lot.

All these methods do not guarantee that the color will come off evenly and quickly. Therefore, decapitating a house with the help of folk remedies cannot give a predictable result. We recommend contacting professionals and not risking the he alth and beauty of your hair.

Decaping and washing: tips from stylists

How to decapitate hair?

E.Gray-haired: “The application of a decapitating agent begins from the ends of the hair, because the concentration of pigments there is greater: the farther the section of hair is from the root, the more times it could hypothetically be dyed earlier. So, we are gradually moving from the ends to the roots, since there are much fewer pigments on the roots. ”

Is it possible not to decapitate the hair, but just paint over the wrong color with another paint?

Dyeing hair over another dye is fraught with unexpected shades, so it is recommended to wash before dyeing in a new color.

Which hair should not be decapitated?

It's no secret that very thin, dry and brittle hair is better not to be subjected to aggressive procedures once again.
