readers share unexpected observations and useful life hacks for applying foundation

On our official Instagram page, there was a competition for the best beauty advice related to the use of foundation. We collected the most interesting comments in this article - and even thought about a new regular column. Thanks to everyone who shared their secrets!

  1. Before applying the tone, dampen the sponge with cool mineral water. The mineral composition will slightly tone the skin, the tone will be distributed more evenly.

  2. If you like to mix several cosmetics or apply cosmetics in layers, consider the interaction of different textures. Foundations fall into two categories: direct emulsion (“oil in water”) or reverse emulsion (“water in oil”). Direct emulsions often do not interact well with oils and begin to delaminate. Inverse emulsions, on the contrary, mix well with oily textures and blend well. To find out which category your foundation falls into, apply it on your hand and spritz with water. The reverse emulsion will begin to separate or simply will not mix with water.

  3. The best way to choose the right tone is to apply foundation in several shades to the chin area and take a black and white photo. A shade that won't show up in the photo and will be the perfect match.

  4. Another way to choose the right tone is to test it not on the neck, but in the area under the collarbone. The neck is usually shaded by hair or head, which can distort the perception of color.

  5. To achieve the effect of skin illuminated from the inside, apply a fine highlighter to the cheekbones, chin and bridge of the nose, and spread foundation over this coating.

  6. Mix a drop of foundation with bright lipstick for a great creamy blush.

  7. To quickly get rid of peeling, apply oily lip balm to dry areas of the skin. After 10 minutes, remove the product with a cotton pad dipped in tonic, with light massaging movements. Then distribute the tone with hammering movements.

  8. If you have a foundation whose shade does not suit you, use special adjusters. They come in different colors - white, yellow, brown, olive, gray, pink. By adding a drop of adjuster, you can adjust the shade of the foundation, making it darker or lighter.

  9. If you suffer from oily sheen, powder your T-zone and cheeks before applying foundation (after moisturizing the skin). Then apply foundation and powder your face again: the powder will absorb excess sebum in the central part of the face, and the skin will look fresh for much longer.

  10. If the foundation is almost finished and dried up, put the closed bottle in a glass of hot water and wait a few minutes. This will help "reanimate" the remedy.

  11. Foundations with good coverage due to their dense texture often clog into fine lines and nasolabial folds. Therefore, apply foundation with a lighter texture to the areas of active facial expressions and blend well.
