Flowers are not just a source of beauty and inspiration. In the beauty industry, this is an inexhaustible resource of useful ingredients
We have already talked about some cosmetic ingredients (like silicones). Today we will talk about flowers. In the beauty industry, they are indispensable - and not only because floral fragrances complement the formulas of creams, powders and lipsticks. Extracts of many flowers have proven their beneficial properties.
Flower motifs are often used in cosmetics packaging. And sometimes they become a symbol of the brand - as happened, for example, with Lancôme.
The brand's products are easy to recognize by the characteristic image of a golden rose. According to legend, the founder of the company, Armand Petitjean, was inspired by the rose bushes around the ruins of the Château de Lancôme.
But let's move from the particular to the general. What else is interesting to know about the use of colors in cosmetics?
If we talk about when flowers ceased to perform a purely decorative function, we can go back to antiquity.
The Egyptians rubbed dried red flower petals and used the resulting "powder" as a rouge. In China, the lotus has long been considered a valuable ingredient in cosmetic recipes. Rose water was widespread even before our era: in ancient Rome it was used as a refreshing and tonic remedy for the skin. Later, Persia was famous for its production.
Today, science is discovering more and more useful properties of flowers and finding ways to use them effectively. It is difficult to imagine the modern beauty industry without flower extracts. And the fashion for everything eco-friendly and natural only increases popularity.
If you care what's on the ingredients list of the products you use, we advise you to figure out how to find out the composition of cosmetics.
Flower extracts in cosmetics
Those who learn to "read" beauty product labels will be interested to know which flower extracts are considered especially valuable in skincare.
Rose extract moisturizes and softens the skin. But the matter is not limited to this. The content of antioxidants and vitamins (such as vitamin C) in it makes this component even more useful. In addition to rose extract, rose oil is also used in cosmetics: it actively stimulates skin regeneration.
The extract of this delicate flower promotes skin regeneration, soothes it and accelerates healing. And yet - provides good protection from an unfavorable environment (jasmine contains antioxidants).
Lavender extract is often included in skin cleansing products (including sensitive skin), as it has antibacterial properties, effectively reduces inflammation and soothes irritated skin. Many are attracted by the light whitening effect of this extract. Plus, it improves regeneration processes, restoring skin elasticity and firmness.
This flower is known for its soothing properties. Chamomile extract is a savior for those with sensitive skin. He is responsible for the removal of irritation, inflammation, rapid healing of wounds. And in hair cosmetics it works as a strengthening component.
Cornflower extract relieves inflammation and tones the skin. It is added to cosmetics for the delicate area around the eyes (here cornflower removes redness and swelling), tonics and lotions that cleanse, soothe the skin and at the same time keep it in good shape. Another valuable property of this extract is the ability to tighten pores and mattify the skin.
But do not forget that even the most effective ingredients in the composition will not help if you do not take care of the skin competently and systematically. The hygiene of the instruments and applicators you use is also very important. Don't forget to clean your makeup brushes regularly. How to do it better, we showed in this video.

La Rose À Poudrer, Lancôme
